Countries travelers should avoid in 2016

With all the craziness that goes on these days, it seems like there’s nowhere to go on vacation. The wave of violence and the horrific acts committed in the name of religious beliefs put a serious damper in touristic activities all over the world.

However, not the whole word is targeted and there are still amazing places you can see in 2016. No need to stay home during your vacation. To make sure you get the best out of your free time, let’s take a look over the countries to avoid this year.

Countries on the African West Coast

If you value your health, then countries like Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia should be off your bucket list. Here was the epicenter of the Ebola outbreak in 2014 and 2015 and, even though the authorities say they contained the problem, it’s still extremely risky to go there.

To make things worse, medical services are difficult to obtain and the hospitals and clinics lack basic equipment. Not to mention that you should be some sort of celebrity to get an ambulance.

The country was destroyed by war, civil actions, and terrorist attacks so there’s nothing you may want to see there. Foreign tourists and people who travel there for professional reasons are the main targets of terrorist attacks. While the country is not considered a viable threat for 2016, it’s still difficult to trust things got right in such a short period of time. So, if you value your safety and you want to have a good time, Bangladesh should be avoided for the time being.

While this may sound like an exotic vacation in a Latin country, it’s best to reconsider your plans. The biggest threat here is represented by bands that kidnap foreigners and ask for huge in return. This is definitely not the kind of adventure you want to have during vacation time!

We all know that Syria is going through some difficult times right now and that the country is an active war zone. Even more, Syrian people are running from their own country.

This is another country with rising levels of violence. The political instability and the mixture of cultures, can lead to a civil war at any time. It is indeed a very beautiful country, but for now Turkey should not be on your list.

Other countries to avoid are: Ukraine, Yemen, Kenya, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. All these countries are either at war or are the epicenter of a life-threatening disease.

Things not to do when traveling

Traveling is a lot of fun and helps you expand your knowledge and acquaintances. Even more, specialists proved that traveling before you turn 25 helps in achieving important goals by the time you are 30. However, if you want your traveling to be successful and rich in positive experiences, you need to know a few tricks.

We asked the experts (travel bloggers, people who travel for a living, and people who have to travel for business), we listened, and came up with a list of things you shouldn’t do while traveling.

Don’t look for restaurants around major touristic sites

These locations are seriously overpriced and always crowded. If you want a nice location, ask someone local for recommendations. Also, go online and see what other tourists are saying. A touristic location usually has a lot more to offer than the tacky places that are around the main attractions. Don’t be hasty and always try to learn more than what the touristic brochures are showing.

Don’t disregard traditions and customs

You are not in your country anymore and you must respect the traditions of the land. The same goes for laws and unwritten rules. Make sure to study a culture before you go visiting abroad because in many countries, things that seem natural to you can be offensive. For instance:

  • Muslim countries don’t appreciate public gestures of affection like holding hands or kissing
  • Un UAE, sex outside marriage is considered illegal.
  • In countries like Turkey or Brazil, the OK sign we make with our fingers is highly offensive.
  • In Buddhist countries, a pat on the head is a horrible insult as they consider the head to be sacred
  • Be careful with taboo subjects – there are entire nations who don’t like to talk about certain topics
  • In Japan, never enter with your shoes on in a home or a temple.

Learn the proper etiquette

Some countries (especially the Asiatic ones) put a great deal of accent on etiquette. There are certain things you just don’t do while eating or drinking so make sure to know them. For instance, there is a great deal of etiquette around eating with chopsticks. They need to be held in a certain way and you can’t point them at people.

Of course, the list of things not to do could go on. So, the best way to avoid offending someone or getting yourself in a difficult situation is to learn about the country you are going to visit.

Best places to travel in 2016

The world is huge and offers so many traveling possibilities that you may not know which ones to choose for your 2016 vacation. We know how difficult it can be to choose out of a plethora of locations so we decided to make a few recommendations.

We used our own experience, opinions from travelers all over the world, and reviews from travel bloggers to narrow down the list to the locations below. These are indeed the best locations to visit this year.

While not an exotic location, Australia has a lot to offer. So, if you’ve never been there, now is the time to pack up and go. We recommend you start with Sydney and work your way to other points of interest like:

  • The Great Reef Barrier where you can do scuba diving and allow Mother Nature to mesmerize you with gorgeous underwater landscapes.
  • Amazing beaches with fine sand where you can relax and maybe catch a few waves.
  • The Outback which is the desert situated right in the middle of the continent. This arid region has many amazing things to show tourists.
  • The winelands in Victoria, Tasmania, and Pert. These wineries product some the most popular wines in the world so why not go and see where the magic happens?

Australia is a fantastic location that promises good food, amazing attractions and relaxation.

If you’re more interested in learning new things and exploring ancient cultures, Japan is the perfect location. This fantastic country is a mixture of old and new with state of the art technology and systems intertwined with ancient beliefs and traditions.

We recommend Tokyo – one of the world’s pinnacles of modern technology. Here you’ll be swept off your feet by Japanese ingenuity and way of life. You’ll get to test life in a huge city of a global importance.

When you get tired, you should retreat to Mie Prefecture (4-hours away from Tokyo with the bullet train). This area is known globally for its beauty and activities. Here you will get to see a UNESCO site, oysters that produce pearls and fantastic landscapes that will make a great post card.

If you want an exotic adventure, Myanmar is the perfect location for you. It offers wonderful landscapes, interesting adventures, great food, and friendly people. What could you want more? Popular destinations in Myanmar are the Mergui Archipelago where you can practice a wide range of water sports and enjoy the sun, Bagan, Shwedagon Pagoda, or Inle Lake.

The best part about Myanmar is that you can still find areas where Mother Nature is running wild. Of course, this won’t last forever considering the touristic boom. So, if you still want to catch Myanmar in its half-wild state, now is the time to go.

Ecuador and Amazon

If mild adventure is not enough, a stroll in the jungle may be best for you. In Ecuador you can get a tour through the Amazonian jungle where big spiders and other dangers lurk in the shadows. Honestly, nothing can compare with a trip to the Amazon so book a ticket on the next plane!
